STORY BEHIND PAINTING:
“His Pledge ~ The Lion of Judah” Original painting by Leah Graham Look into His eyes. What do you see? As Judah became a pledge of safety for his younger brother Benjamin, rather than enslave him, so God means for us to not to domineer over others but to lift others up and love them. To sacrifice for others, rather than be selfish. To use our God-given strength and energy and resources and finances and influence to help others, rather than hurt others. This is the legacy of Judah: not exploiting others but sacrificing for them. But the legacy of Judah is more than simply a call for us to be pledges of safety for others. The reason we can have hope, despite our glaring flaws, and the reason we can step forward to sacrifice self for the good of others, is because we ourselves have a Pledge of Safety for us!!! There is only one king, and only one man, who is the perfect embodiment of Judah’s legacy: “Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah has conquered”. Picture Jesus himself turning to his Father and saying about you, “I will be a pledge of his safety.” Father, I will not come back without him. I will bear the blame for him. And Jesus came and offered himself in your place, as your substitute. What enables us to be the kind of people who become pledges of safety for others is that first and foremost we have Jesus as our Pledge of Safety. Jesus is the Lion of Judah. And when it gets hard, and when you feel weak, and when it feels like it’s more than you can bear, you have a lion to lean on!! 💛 He is our defender, our comforter and our friend. He will hold you fast. He will keep you safe. He will bring you peace and never leave you. I pray you will hear his voice. Even in our pain and confusion, He is good. When I look into His eyes I see goodness, kindness, compassion, integrity, glory, a deep deep love, light, power, miracles. I see so many beautiful things. It removes my pain and removes my fears. The Lion of Judah gives me hope and strength. THAT is the Jesus I hope for everyone to know.
